Intermittent stuttering of recording playback

I've been trying to figure out why playback of recorded programming stutters every 15sec or so. It's almost unwatchable. Is anyone having or has had similar issues? While watching a live program, I'll right click and hit the record option in DD. When recording is done, I then convert the .TS file to Mpg format. I've tried playing the recorded mpg file on more than one player with same results so it's definitely not a player issue. I have a very capable pc running c2d e6750, 4gig of ram, ati 3850, vista home premium and skywalker 1. All software, codecs, and drivers are up to date. I'm using Intervideo as my mpeg2 codec and CoreAVC 1.60 as my H264 codec. Watching live tv is fine, just the recorded playback. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

The pro version of Coreavc has smp support for multicore cpu's, so if your not using the pro version you should give it a try.
Also the conversion might cause the hickups. ts files can play in mpc just fine.
