DD 1.4d and dropped frame information

I start this thread not to complaint about DD 1.4d, but seeking for advice/feedback on how to minimize the dropping frame issue.

Obviously before DD1.4d, I have no physical measurement on the dropped frame issue. Sometime I witness the frame dropping by my eyes. but now DD 1.4d shows me exactly frame dropping or not, and how much it drops, regardless how my eyes feel..

Since I see the hard cord evident on the DD 1.4d interface about dropped frame, I have to do something with it. I have changed some settings with video codec and see different result. However no combination is perfect. Please let me know if you gets similar result/experience. Any advice to tune up the system to avoid the dropped frame, I highly appreciate:

Video mixing Render 7:
+No issue with dropped frame for Mpeg2 HD channel
+CoreAVC 1.5 dropped frame a lot with h264 channel. The frame rate only go up to 29
+cyber link does not have dropped frame issue, however there is out of lip synch issue. the frame rate goes up to 59. Wow!

Video mixing Render 9:
+ Mpeg2 HD channel experiencing dropped frame!!!!! I use PureVideo codec.
+ CoreAVC 1.5 still have some dropped frame, but it 's much better than Render 7
+ cyber link does not have issue with frame, but still have audio out of synch issue

Generic render:
+ Wow... no dropped frame issue at all for mpeg2 and h264, however the video has lot of waves just like the deinterlace is not working right... When video shown on the full screen, it's flicking after every 10 seconds.

So I guess, to watch mpeg2 HD I need to use render7, to watch h264 I need to switch to render 9.

I have duo 2 core X2 AMD 5600+ PC. 2 GB RAM. If I add more RAM would the issue goes away?

The frame rate only go up to 29 --- no such thing with C2D E6850 @3.14 GHz, both cores working at 23...28 % load, zero dropped frames (on 1080i channels; 720p is quite a different story of disbalanced A/V buffers, wrong frame formatting; with Standard de-blocking and DS de-interlacing; don't have CoreAVC 1.6 to test though

Wow! --- Same here, except at 720p channels V buffer grows fast (my 2600 XT is obviously processing it with "different" pin or something, which is a mystery to a 1.4d's ddsource.ax. With a V buffer tuned to ~64 MB or so, the growth of its occupancy stops, no, slows down. But the picture is the most weirdest I ever seen -- all movements on the screen slowed down 2...3....5 times. It could be sweet to watch some Science/Sports channel, lol. No, it's not. It's crap.

Video mixing Render 9: (this one is broken for HDTV by its definition and design that predates the very concept of real-time HDTV broadcast/streaming, why bother?)

Finely tuned A/V buffers' sizes can help for around half an hour of watching 720p by CoreAVC. ATi HD 2600 XT and new/alternative forced syncing faster splitter (Haali?) will definitely help a lot

I added 1 G RAM, makes it 3 GB memory, however the issue is still there.

I disable log file option on DD, the issue not going away...

What other thing I should do to fix the dropped frame issue with h264 channel?

Any expert advice?

I guess I am giving advice to myself then
I switch from coreavc 1.5 to 1.6 and the issue goes away.
That means my current setup is below:

video mix render 7
Purevideo codec
coreavc 1.6 codec
Intervideo audio codec

mpeg2 buffer = 64 MB
h264 buffer = 128 MB
audio buffer = 1024 KB

One more thing: I just noticed that for 1440x1080 mpeg2 HD channel, 64 MB buffer would be enought; but when it broadcast with 1920x1080 resolution, 128 MB buffer will be needed.

For h264 channel, regardless what resolution, 128 MB buffer is needed.

ArcSoft Video decoder works with DD 1.4d better than coreavc 1.6. Check this out.

Dear Chattana,
probably with coreavc you don't lose frames because it should be the fastest h.264 codec, but it also true that due to it algorithm it has a bad quality image, and someone says it shouldn't consider a h.264 for this quality reason.
What can I say if you like it why don't use it.
Yesterday I saw that with some configuration I had 22 fps insead of 25 and I had also many frames loss but the image was fluid enought for me.

For me the ArcSoft video decoder plays smoother video than CoreAVC 1.6. But somother peopole report the other way..

I don't really trust 100% on the dropped frame information shown by DD 1.4D. Sometime I experience the huge lag of video (my eyes tell witness that) however DD 1.4d reports on the screen that dropped frame=0 and archived frame = 9???? When I look into the detail information of that current video on the status bar, it says 1280x720 29.9 fps.... That means DD 1.4d reports information that conflict each other...

I had studder with ATI 1950 but HD2600XT is smooth.

That was fast! I'll give it a try when I get home in about an hour. Does anyone have the guids for it?

Did a test install just to take a look at the program - thought it looked good for HDDVD playback, but I don't see any way to play from the HD, just the HD DVD drive. Was hoping it would work better than the crappy PowerDVD.

Oh well, the codec is the main thing I wanted to try.
