Foreign Body

I've got a small object on my screen bouncing hysterically around and I dont want it.
Its a square shape comprising nine small squares like the end of a Rubic Cube.

I'd pressed File/Return to defaults simply to see what happened!
Everything has now been restored to its normal state except for this object.
I dont recognise it, its very annoying, and with your help I'd like to remove it.
